Polyester Stenter Exhaust Recovery with Rotary Wheel (Case Study)

A synthetic-fabric plant exhausts 80,000 m3/h of polyester stenter air at about 150 C. EN159 recovered heat with a rotary enthalpy wheel to preheat process air.

The Challenge

Polyester stentering runs hot and exhausts large heat. Preheating incoming air cut fuel for the oven. The stream was clean enough for wheel recovery.

Why Rotary Air-to-Air Recovery

For high-temperature polyester stenter exhaust, a rotary wheel recovers sensible and latent heat at high effectiveness. Textile duty permits wheel use; a purge sector manages leakage.

The EN159 Solution

EN159 rotary wheel, 80,000 m3/h, total effectiveness 76 percent, high-temperature alloy matrix rated to 180 C with purge sector.

Measured Results

  • Recovered heat: about 2.2 MW
  • Process air preheated toward oven setpoint
  • Fuel use cut by 29 percent
  • Estimated payback: 13 months

Compliance and Selection Notes

Rotary wheel permitted for polyester stenter (not forbidden). High-temp matrix and purge sector included. Plate alternative for fibre load.

Frequently Asked Questions

Temperature limit?

The matrix is rated to 180 C, covering 150 C stenter exhaust with margin.

Why wheel over plate?

The wheel also recovers latent heat, raising total effectiveness above a sensible-only plate.
