A nonwoven fabric plant exhausts 35,000 m3/h of oven air at about 160 C. EN159 recovered heat with a heat-pipe exchanger to preheat oven make-up air.
The Challenge
The oven needed hot make-up air. Exhaust at 160 C carried large heat. The stream carried fibre, so a robust separated recovery was needed.
Why Heat Pipe Air-to-Air Recovery
For hot, fibre-laden oven exhaust, a heat pipe gives separated-stream recovery with no rotating seal to foul. Rotary wheels are excluded where fibre load is high. Welded stainless plate is the alternative.
The EN159 Solution
EN159 heat-pipe modules, 35,000 m3/h, make-up air preheated from 25 C to 110 C, high-temperature alloy walls, 4 degree tilt, lint prefilter.
Measured Results
- Recovered heat: about 0.8 MW
- Make-up air preheated from 25 C to 110 C
- Oven fuel cut by 23 percent
- Estimated payback: 17 months
Compliance and Selection Notes
Heat-pipe recovery, separated streams, prefiltered. Rotary wheel excluded for fibre-laden duty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why heat pipe at 160 C?
High-temperature alloy walls and matched fluid handle it; the pipe keeps streams separate from fibre.
Plate alternative?
Yes, welded stainless plate is offered where fibre load is lower.
