Mines move massive airflows, and in cold regions heating that intake is a major cost, plus exhaust moisture can form hazardous ice at the shaft. Recovering heat from exhaust pays back fast.
Selection rules for mines
- Never use rotary wheels: carryover and frost make them unsafe underground.
- Plate or heat pipe: separated, robust, no moving parts in the airstream.
- Frost control is essential, preheat or bypass (see frost control).
Typical savings
