Aluminium Anodizing Dryer Exhaust Recovery with Plate Exchanger (Case Study)

An anodizing line dries parts with 35,000 m3/h of 70 C exhaust containing moisture. EN159 preheated intake air with a plate exchanger.

The Challenge

The dryer needed warm intake air. Exhaust moisture was high, so recovery had to avoid returning humid air to the product zone.

Why Plate Air-to-Air Recovery

Plate sensible recovery keeps streams separate and handles moist exhaust without carry-back. A rotary wheel was ruled out to prevent humidity transfer into the supply.

The EN159 Solution

EN159 BXB plate module, 35,000 m3/h, intake 22 C raised to 50 C, stainless plates resistant to the anodizing atmosphere.

Measured Results

  • Recovered heat: about 0.5 MW
  • Intake preheated from 22 C to 50 C
  • Energy cut by 30 percent
  • Estimated payback: 16 months

Compliance and Selection Notes

Sensible-only plate recovery, separated streams. No rotary wheel due to humidity transfer risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does humidity cross the plate?

No. Only sensible heat transfers through the wall; vapour stays in the exhaust stream.

Material choice?

Stainless plates resist the anodizing atmosphere better than coated aluminium.
