Knit Fabric Stentering Exhaust Recovery with Plate Exchanger (Case Study)

A knitwear plant exhausts 50,000 m3/h of stenter air at about 110 C with fibre and lint. EN159 recovered sensible heat with a plate exchanger to avoid fouling.

The Challenge

Knit stentering exhaust carried lint that would foul a rotary wheel. The plant wanted high effectiveness without rotating-part maintenance.

Why Plate Air-to-Air Recovery

For fibre-laden stenter exhaust, a plate exchanger avoids the fouling and leakage risk of a rotary wheel. Sensible recovery with separated streams is robust and easy to clean.

The EN159 Solution

EN159 BXB welded stainless plate module, 50,000 m3/h, intake 20 C raised to 70 C, lint prefilter upstream, blow-down cleanable.

Measured Results

  • Recovered heat: about 1.0 MW
  • Intake preheated from 20 C to 70 C
  • Fuel use cut by 24 percent
  • Estimated payback: 16 months

Compliance and Selection Notes

Plate sensible recovery chosen for lint-laden exhaust. Rotary wheel avoided due to fouling risk on this line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why plate instead of wheel here?

Lint would foul a wheel; the plate is lint-resistant and cleanable.

Can it take 110 C exhaust?

Yes, welded stainless plates handle this range.
