The telecom shelter cooling problem

Telecom base stations and data shelters pack heat-generating electronics into small, often unmanned rooms. Keeping them cool in hot climates traditionally means compressor air conditioning running all day, which is expensive and failure-prone in remote sites. Heat pipe natural cooling

Why tilt and orientation matter

The condenser must sit above the evaporator by a few degrees so the condensed liquid drains back by gravity. Install it flat and it stops working. This is the one installation rule that decides success, so site the unit with a clear slope and verify it during commissioning.

Energy saving versus compressor cooling

In many climates a heat-pipe free-cooling loop carries most of the heat load for much of the year, letting the compressor run only during the hottest hours. Sites report 30 to 60 percent cooling-energy reduction. Because the device has no moving parts in the airstream and no external pump, reliability in remote shelters is high.
