Spray booths and coating lines exhaust large volumes of warmed air - much of it carrying solvent vapour and overspray. Discarding that heat and reheating make-up air is expensive, especially in winter. A cross-flow air-to-air heat exchanger recovers the sensible heat while keeping the contaminated exhaust strictly isolated from the supply stream.
Keeping streams separate
The defining advantage of the plate design is the solid wall between airstreams. The VOC-laden booth exhaust never contacts the fresh make-up air, so there is no risk of painting fumes re-entering the booth or the workspace. Heat still moves efficiently across the plate by conduction.
